Wishing Everyone a Happy JWalking Christmas

Christmas in New Zealand

It’s a little tough being away from home, family and friends over the Christmas period as everything festive seems to make you miss those nearest and dearest. So although we are enjoying every single day of our little trip this is perhaps the hardest part of being so far away.

We miss our boys and their girls most of all and although we will Skype and WhatsApp call them all it’s the same as being together at Christmas and every thought of them at this time of year really does pull at the old heart strings. It really does make us look forward to seeing them all in the New Year when we return to England. We have actually planned our own ‘MissMass’ celebrations for mid-February when we’ll all be together for 3 days and we can’t wait.

Also missing the rest of our family over the Christmas season as it makes you remember times past when you were all together. And all our friends of course. So many of you have kept in touch all through our years of travel and have been so very supportive. We can’t thank you all enough.

One of the most unexpected and fabulous parts of our journey has been the number of new friends that we have made along the way. We really never anticipated that we would make real friends all over the world. From Aldeburgh and Mears Ashby in England to Melbourne, Australia, to Vancouver Island in Canada, and of course to all of our friends here in New Zealand. It has been absolutely incredible and seriously heart-warming to meet and become friendly with so many people.

Another surprising and wonderful aspect of our life has been the number of other travel bloggers that we have got to know. It feels like a whole new world of friends to chat to and share our experiences with. Thanks so much to all of you that have commented, been in touch and offered so much encouragement. It really is appreciated.

So Happy Christmas to every single one of you. Have a wonderful day and a very prosperous New Year. See you all in 2018.

  1. Merry Christmas Jonno! We’re away at this time too, it’s the first time and it’s certainly not easy. Especially in Cambodia where there’s no Christmas haha. How’re you celebrating this year?

  2. Merry Christmas to you Johno. 🎄 Can’t be easy being away from family at this time but think of how much fun you’ll have catching up when you see them next. Take care and happy journeying 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas to you both. Looks like Abel Tasman kept the sun out for you. It is indeed a hard time to be abroad. I too have a Whatsapp call to make back to Scotland once my family has filled their bellies with turkey. Wishing you a marvellous 2018 when it comes!

    • Happy Christmas Misty. Abel Tasman was stunningly beautiful, we absolutely loved it and the weather was amazing. Hope the Scottish WhatsApp call was fun.

  4. Bit late to this party so I hope you had a happy and no doubt very sunny Christmas. Did you buy the Christmas hats specially in NZ or have you been carrying with them since you left Blighty?
