What living the Helpx Life is like in Scotland

Amazingly we have been working here in Scotland for nine weeks. We actually arrived at the beginning of May and have a little under two weeks left on our Helpx stay until we get the train back to the south east of England on July 25th. In many ways the time has flown by as we have been so very busy but it also feels as if we’ve been here forever as we are extremely settled and very comfortable. I suppose we are in a routine of sorts which undoubtedly contributes to our feelings of contentment.

Exploring Scotland

Most of our posts concentrate on our trips out and about in Scotland. We’ve tried to see as many places as possible on our afternoons and days off and the benefit of having use of our hosts car has made exploring so much easier. Just imagine if we had to use public transport to get around? Some places seem to have an occasional bus service that occasionally runs to occasional places but it often seems to be a case of ‘oh, the next bus will be here on Thursday’! Massive thanks to Tina and Norman, our Helpx hosts, for the use of their little blue car.

It’s not all exploring and driving around scenic glens past beautiful lochs you know, we do work pretty hard. From cleaning to painting to gardening, every day is full on and we often collapse exhausted when we finally finish all of our jobs. It’s a real experience though and we’re enjoying (almost) every moment.

  2. Nice. What a great summer to enjoy what Scotland has to offer as well, but please, no more photos of you in the waders! Totally unnecessary.

    • It’s a great concept Sue. You’re right about some of it being hard work but we quite like that and its a wonderful way of meeting new people and seeing new places.
